A Fox and A Crow – A Moral Story for Kids

Long ago, there was a lush green forest filled with swaying trees, the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers, and the cheerful chirping of birds all around.
Many animals lived in this forest — some leapt on trees, some ran on the ground, and some swam in the water.

Among them lived a very clever fox. The fox was always thinking of new tricks, especially when she was hungry.
And one day, the same thing happened — she hadn’t eaten anything since morning.
She roamed through the forest in search of food, sniffing under trees, peeking into bushes — but found nothing to eat.

Now she was tired, and her stomach was growling with hunger.
Just then, her eyes landed on a large mango tree. On its highest branch sat a crow — black, smart, and always alert.
But this time, the crow had something in his beak.

Yes! A thick, fresh piece of bread!
The fox’s eyes sparkled. Her mouth started watering. She thought,
“If I get that bread, my hunger will be gone!”

But there was a problem. She couldn’t climb the tree, and the crow was known for guarding his food well. So what could she do?

🧠 The Fox’s Plan

The fox sat down under the tree and started thinking. Soon, a clever idea struck her. She smiled and walked up to the tree.

She looked up and said in a sweet voice,
“Oh! Am I dreaming? Or is the most beautiful bird in the forest really sitting before me?”

The crow was a bit surprised but stayed silent, holding the bread tightly in his beak.

The fox continued,
“I’ve never seen such a beautiful bird with such shiny black feathers. You could be the king of this jungle!”

The crow felt pleased but still didn’t say anything.

The fox took it further,
“I believe if your voice is as sweet as your looks, you could be even greater than the lion! Why don’t you sing a song for me?”

Now the crow was filled with pride. He thought, “So much praise! I should at least show off a little voice.”

As soon as the crow tried to sing “Caw Caw,” his beak opened — and the piece of bread fell to the ground!

🍞 Trick Success

The fox quickly pounced like lightning and snatched the bread into her mouth. She jumped with joy and said:

“Wow! What a delicious bread! Thank you, dear crow, you’ve filled my tummy!”

The crow deeply regretted his foolishness. He couldn’t say anything, but silently thought —
“I made a huge mistake by falling for flattery.”

As the fox walked away, she smiled and said,
“Here’s a little advice, dear crow —
Not every sweet word is true, and most compliments hide some intention. Don’t fall for words so easily next time.”

The crow sat quietly — ashamed, but with a valuable lesson learned.

🌟 Moral of the Story:
Never trust flatterers.
Don’t be arrogant about your talents, and don’t get carried away by sweet words.

📚 What can we learn from this story?

Wisdom and Alertness: If the crow had been alert, he could have saved his bread.

Avoid Flattery: Not everyone praises you honestly — some do it for their own benefit.

Don’t Be Arrogant: Being proud of your praise can be harmful.

Think Before You Act: Don’t take action just because someone said something — think carefully first.
